How to Cancel or Refund an AI Companion App Subscription

In short

Cancel through the same billing channel you used: web checkout, Apple App Store, Google Play or the payment processor. Uninstalling the app does not cancel billing. Refunds are usually not guaranteed for partial months, so save receipts and request cancellation confirmation in writing.

Cancellation is where cheap AI companion trials can get irritating. The app you chat in is not always the place that bills you, and uninstalling the app does nothing to stop renewal.

Use this order.

Step 1: identify the billing channel

Find the receipt first. Search your email for:

  • The app name
  • The parent company name
  • Apple, Google, Stripe, PayPal or Paddle
  • The card-statement descriptor
  • “subscription”, “renewal”, “receipt” or “invoice”

This matters because the cancellation path follows the billing channel. If you bought through Apple, cancel in Apple subscriptions. If you bought through Google Play, cancel in Google Play. If you bought on the web, cancel in the web account or payment-processor portal.

Step 2: cancel before deleting the account

Cancel the renewal first, then delete the account later. If you delete the account before cancelling, you may make it harder to access the billing screen.

Save a screenshot or email confirmation that shows:

  1. The subscription name
  2. The cancellation date
  3. The final access date
  4. The billing channel

Step 3: request a refund quickly

Refund windows vary. App stores usually have their own request forms. Web payments depend on the merchant policy. Your request should be short and specific:

I am requesting a refund for subscription order [receipt/order ID]. The purchase was made on [date] through [billing channel]. Please confirm cancellation and refund eligibility in writing.

Do not send emotional chat logs unless the company explicitly needs them. Receipts, account email and order IDs are normally enough.

Step 4: stop token top-ups

Some companion apps separate the subscription from tokens, credits, gems or media packs. Canceling the subscription may not refund unused credits, and credit packs may be non-refundable. Check the token wallet and transaction history before you delete the account.

Step 5: delete data after billing is handled

Once cancellation is confirmed, use our data deletion guide to export and delete chats. Billing cancellation and privacy deletion are separate jobs.

App-specific reminders

  • Candy AI: check for Everai billing descriptors and token purchases.
  • Replika: check the Replika help center and the app-store subscription screen if bought on mobile.
  • Character.AI: c.ai+ is the paid plan; voice itself is not the token issue in the support material we reviewed.
  • Janitor AI: app access may be free, but your external model/API provider may still bill you.

Frequently asked questions

Does deleting an AI companion app cancel the subscription?

No. Uninstalling the app does not cancel billing. You must cancel in the web account, Apple App Store, Google Play, Stripe checkout, PayPal, or whatever billing channel took the payment.

Can I get a refund for an AI companion app?

Sometimes, but do not assume it. Apple and Google handle many app-store refunds through their own processes. Web subscriptions depend on the app's refund policy and payment processor. Ask quickly and include your receipt.

What if I do not know who billed me?

Search your email for the app name, the company name, Stripe, PayPal, Apple, Google and the descriptor on your card statement. Candy AI, for example, can appear as Everai.
